On Leaving the South

*Not all poems are not directly linked to a specific location but generally relate to the 9th Cavalry leaving the South.

On July 30, 1865, the 9th Michigan Cavalry Regiment was noted as being in Jackson, Jackson County, Michigan (Turner 3-4). Depending on the route taken, the distance between Jackson and the regiment’s last noted movement in Concord is 641+ miles (Google Maps).

However, at some point, Horton separated from the regiment and is thought to have gone to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
